Family Home Evening at The Museum of Idaho

Sawyer has been begging us for weeks to go see the Titanic Exhibit at the Museum of Idaho. So since Monday is Family Night at the Museum, and you can get in for cheap, and since Brandon was home to help with crowd control- we went. I'm sure the exhibit in Las Vegas was much better, but this wasn't bad for little Idaho Falls. The boys each got a ticket to board the Titanic. On the ticket was a name of a real person on the Titanic, with a little information about them. The exhibit was filled with amazing artifacts that have somehow survived all these years under sea. The stories they had posted were heart breaking. One mother refused to board the lifeboats because her two sons, 16 and 14, were not considered children, and not allowed to get off. As the ship sank, she held on as tight as she could, but they were still ripped from her arms. She was the only woman that was pulled from the water to survive, her sons were never recovered. They had a display of the cabin rooms of a 1st class passenger and a 3rd class passenger. Sawyer asked me what class we would have been in, and upon inspection, most definitely 3rd class. A first class ticket was $2,300, the equivalent of $49,000 today. A third class ticket was $35 which is about $640. Definitely 3rd class. Kaden wasn't thrilled to be there, but by the end I suspect he enjoyed it. At the end, each of the boys were able to take their tickets, and compare them to a board which had the names of all the passengers and whether or not they survived. Then in the car I of course had to get some spiritual thought in. It was family home evening after all. But I tried to explain to the boys that people thought that The Titanic was unsinkable, it ignored repeated iceberg warnings, continuing on at almost full speed, and the watchmen in the towers had lost their binoculars. We are like the Titanic. God has put his best work into us, but we still need to look out for thing in this life that will take us down. We need to be especially careful of the things that we can't see, things that are lurking beneath the water. Then we finished the late, late, night off with ice cream. It was a good night.

We've been wanting to take our kids to this - sounds like it's worth it. Way to go on the jam - I spent yesterday doing the same thing and was going to run some over to you guys...but it looks like you've got it covered. :)
